Obstacles to Change: Media Deception and Public Perception

Change is the key to our success and to our future. Often in our own lives, however, change is something we fiercely resist. We can only become who we want to become through change.

In spite of knowing this, we still often wallow in our comfort zone. Even when achievement sits on our doorstep, we're still too comfortable to make an adjustment. The biggest obstacles to change are fear, lack of motivation, lack of knowledge and lack of vision.

We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn't. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows. ~ Katharine Graham, former owner of the Washington Post

...Consider that when we shut out the shadow side and make "them" bad or evil, we are limiting the potential within all of us.

In order to be the change we want to see in the world, we can be most effective when we understand at least some of the basic inner workings of the old paradigm and work together to transform the shadows both within ourselves and out in the world.

This shadow exploration starts here with the role of the media in influencing public perception. The engaging essay at the link below provides concise summaries of revealing writings by a number of courageous journalists who reported on powerful, disturbing stories at the risk of losing their jobs in order to bring highly important news to the public.

Please read the two-page summary at the link below. While you read some of the eye-opening information in these accounts, remember that by working together, we have the potential to change all of this.

Some of you may already know or have suspected how corporate ownership of the media has tended to promote fear and sensationalism while neglecting some of the most important issues our world is facing. Others may feel a bit overwhelmed after reading the revealing stories of these courageous, award-winning journalists.

For those who were not aware of media complicity in keeping certain key information from the public, please realize that many who have taken this course were shocked and disturbed when they first learned about some of these things.Yet we also know without doubt that every one of us can make a difference, and together we can be the change and build the world we envision.

Many people would rather not know about the major manipulations happening in our world. Believing that it is better to focus only on the positive, they choose to avoid looking into the shadows. Yet would you ignore a friend who was about to harm someone or commit suicide?

As long as we collectively choose ignorance over awareness, these manipulations will continue. In fact, they will likely grow in magnitude until people are finally forced to open their eyes and deal with the consequences.

The sooner each of us decides that we do want to know of important matters that are being hidden, and that we are willing to invite others to open their eyes, the more easily we will be able to transform our world in a direction that supports the good of all who share this beautiful planet with us.

Though these lessons include information on the shadow side of our world, our purpose is always one of inspiring you individually and all of us collectively to be the change we want to see in the world. Consider that this can be a tremendous opportunity for us to make a real difference in our lives and world.
